Details

As a young boy, Constable spent hours sketching clouds in what he referred to as his ‘skying’ sessions to develop the skill that became so apparent in his ‘Study of Clouds’ (early 1820’s) series, creating the perfect cloud formation and sunlight combination.

This early style has many qualities of his more mature work, touch and colour, freshness of light and the compositional influence of the old masters Constable studied, in particular Claude Lorrain.
