Sketch of East Bergholt from East Bergholt House
A rare sketch of East Bergholt done in the late evening of 10 August depicting the back of East Bergholt House, home of the artist's father Golding Constable, showing the grain store.
In the summer of 1811, Constable returned to East Bergholt from Epsom following his exhibition of ‘Dedham Vale Morning’ at the Royal Academy. He was also courting his future wife Maria Bicknell and finally received Maria’s father's permission to write to her in the October.
The sketch is compared closely with ‘View of Beaufont Cottage from Golding Constable House’, ‘Flatford Mill’ and ‘West Lodge’
